Anthem (Download) (PC)

Ordentlicher Loot-Shooter, der zu spät in Fahrt kommt. Warum nicht aus den Fehlern anderer lernen, anstatt sie selbst aufs Neue zu machen?

Die PC-Version von Anthem sieht richtig gut aus und muss sich in diesem Punkt auch hinter Battlefield V nicht verstecken. In einem anderen hingegen schon: Im Gegenzug zur DICE-Entwicklung mit derselben Engine wird in Anthem deutlich schnellere Hardware benötigt, eine deutlich stärkere Grafikkarte ist für dasselbe Ergebnis Pflicht. Anspruchsvoller in Bezug auf die GPU ist derzeit vielleicht kein anderes Spiel.

DLSS is a mixed bag, but at 4K the performance increase that's offered by the feature can be well worth the decrease in overall scene detail. This loss in detail will not be noticed by many players, especially in fast-paced action scenes. Anthem plays much better at higher framerates, which makes DLSS a must at 4K on RTX series graphics cards.

In Anthem, it doesn't take long for that exhaustion to turn into dread, as you stare into the soul of the game and all that stares back is the ghost of someone continually rolling the dice in the hopes of getting a better gun.

Beautiful, broken, with flashes of brilliance, Anthem is a disorganised mess in search of a reason to be.

I hoped that I would be wrong about Anthem, because I love BioWare, and even though this isn’t typical BioWare, I like to watch studios succeed in doing something different (see Apex Legends). But I was more right than I expected, which I can assure you is quite a shock. No doubt it will have its defenders, but a nice jetpack and some half-decent combat does not a great game make.

BioWare has already done a lot of the hard work. A satisfying core gameplay loop is difficult to create, but the studio has managed it. Playing makes me feel like a true sci-fi superhero, 10 seconds at a time. But in order for Anthem to survive, BioWare will need to clarify its identity and prioritize the right elements of it.
