It seems MSI has hit the sweet spot, even if availability seems a little scarce for the MAG X870E Tomahawk Max Wi-Fi right now. So long as you don't pay much more than $20-30 more than the standard model, then it's a solid choice with plenty of features that's a decent home for your hardware, even if this refresh doesn't add anything revolutionary.

It's been two years since the launch of the AMD AM5 motherboard platform and the 600-series motherboards. Since its launch, the platform has seen the launch of several CPUs in the Ryzen 7000, Ryzen 8000, and Ryzen 9000 family. While the 600-series motherboards provide great features & compatibility with newer Zen 5 CPUs, motherboard makers are always looking to enhance user experiences through the latest technologies which is why AMD has introduced a new chipset line called 800-series.

Wir haben diese Platine für unsere Leser getestet und diese gegen die anderen AM5-Mainboards antreten lassen.

Das MSI MPG X870E Carbon WIFI ist aktuell zu einem Preis von ca. 480€ im Handel erhältlich. Es überzeugt durch seine herausragende Leistung und vielseitige Funktionalität. Ein Highlight ist die robuste Spannungsversorgung mit einem 18+2+1 Phasendesign, das eine stabile Stromversorgung für leistungsstarke Prozessoren gewährleistet.Hinzu kommen die vielen Anschlussmöglichkeiten des Boards.

Das MSI MPG X870E Carbon WiFi ist eine empfehlenswerte Option für Nutzer, die ein hochwertiges Mainboard mit umfangreicher Ausstattung unter 500 Euro suchen, und bietet verbesserte Anschlüsse sowie komfortable Funktionen wie werkzeuglosen M.2-Einbau. Für 479 Euro ist es nur geringfügig teurer als das X670E Carbon WiFi; wer jedoch Wi-Fi 7 oder schnellere USB-Ports wünscht, sollte das neue Modell in Betracht ziehen.

No doubt about it though, the issues I had were small compared to the positives on the X870E Carbon Wifi. MSI did a great job with the board. But what will it run you? Well, you are going to have to throw down $499.99 for the X870E Carbon Wifi. That puts it right up with the Strix X870E-E Gaming Wifi that I already took a look at and the Aorus Master as well. Base feature wise all three boards have a similar setup. The Aorus board has the same PCIe layout and the X870E-E has one less PCIe slot but has one more M.2 slot. All three have the shared lanes issue and the same 5G NIC. The Aorus board has fewer Type-C connections and the Asus board has one more. The Asus board has one more VRM with an 18+2+2 to the 18+2+1 on the Carbon and the Aorus has fewer with its 16+2+2. I would put the Asus board slightly ahead on features and the Aorus behind but the X870E Carbon Wifi does have a $10 rebate currently and it will just depend on what features you prioritize.

In our review a while ago, we found that the ASRock board didn't have the best EFI or software, so it will be interesting to see what MSI brings to the table here as its EFI is usually excellent, with Windows software less so. We have the cheaper Tomahawk and Ace boards from MSI waiting in the wings too, while we're waiting for updates from Intel and motherboard manufacturers regarding Z890 options before our reviews drop, given the launch issues we've encountered. Thankfully MSI has just released a BIOS to remedy an issue that caused graphics card driver problems with Windows 11, so fixes are definitely coming. Stay tuned for our Z890 content.
