Für Einstiegspreise unter 550 Euro sind entsprechende Geforce RTX 2070 auf jeden Fall einen Blick wert, gerade weil die Geforce GTX 1080 bald vom Markt verschwinden dürfte. Neben einer ähnlichen Leistung haben die RTX-Karten überdies Raytracing- und DLSS-Unterstützung, wenngleich sich beide Funktionen abseits von Techdemos noch nicht ausprobieren lassen. Dennoch: Diese Turing-Karte ist ihr Geld wert.

On the performance side of the world, this is the fastest RTX 2070 we’ve tested yet. It even edges out the factory overclocked Nvidia Founders Edition most of the time. The custom PCB and cooling solution are likely responsible for that. Nvidia's RTX 2070 is already the sweet spot for gamers and MSI makes a compelling reason to Armor it up and march into digital battle.

Our advice is to forego the premium models and focus exclusively at the £460 price point, where multiple players are battling it out.

Summarising the RTX 2070 Armor is as simple as you'd expect on a basic level, yet also as complicated as possible on other levels.

Much of what we think about the MSI RTX 2070 Armor also applies to the MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z. Such is the consistency of the nVidia yields that the days in which there are select "golden silicon" chips around are behind us, and no matter what model you buy you can be sure that the underlying GPU is pretty much the same all around. Equally the excellence of the continually refined GPU Boost means that even a bone stock card can overclock to a certain degree, narrowing the gap between the high end versions and the value models.

MSI has engineered a behemoth RTX 2070 with their GeForce RTX 2070 Gaming Z. The card is massive and looks the part because of its large triple-slot cooler. Out of the box, the card is overclocked to a boost frequency of 1830 MHz, which is 120 MHz higher than the Founders Edition and 210 MHz higher than the reference. With those frequencies, it's one of the highest-clocked RTX 2070 cards available. Averaged over all of our benchmarks at 1440p resolution, the MSI Gaming Z is 4% faster than the Founders Edition—not a lot.
