When it comes to affordability, you really can’t beat the MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk WiFi. Costing round USD $250, it’s designed and targeted at the mainstream market, and it’s perfect for gamers and system builders who wants to build an affordable system based on the latest Ryzen 7000 series of processors. It supports DDR5 ram with speeds of up to DDR5-6400 OC+, AMD EXPO memory profiles, and comes with a DisplayPort and HDMI output, as well as WiFi 6E. It does lack a lot of the enthusiast features found on the higher-end X670E motherboards, but having said that the MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk WiFi does come with plenty of features that’s more than enough for most users.

The MSI B650M Mortar WIFI is the mid-tier model from MSI’s B650 family, from a MAG series. The looks are very sleek and should fit typical builds. It has an integrated I/O shield, great RGB implementation (with two aRGB connectors and two RGB compliant), PCIe 4.0 compatibility, PCIe 4.0 NVMe drives support (you can install two drives), and 6 SATA ports. There are no power/reset/clear CMOS buttons, which could come in handy when overclocking. You get a 2.5 Gbe Ethernet and Wi-Fi compatibility. MSI B650M Mortar WIFI has a reliable power delivery with 12+2+1 phase VRM. That should be enough even for the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X and possibly the new processors for the AM5 socket. The power delivery section is cooled with a radiator; no fans are included (so overall, that’s good). There are five fan headers – so you shouldn’t be disappointed in that department, but some would like more (like six or eight). You won’t get Thunderbolt 4.0 ports, but on the other side, you’ll get many USB ports (7x Type-A) at the rear panel. Audio performance is above average with an ALC4080 used (which is typical for high-end motherboards). The MSI B650M Mortar WIFI is an attractive option, even though it’s a mid-tier product. The price is rather steep, as the chipset itself is expensive. The price (239 USD) is attractive due to the usage of the B650 (not X670) chipset, but on the other side, you won’t get a PCIe 5.0 or M.2 Gen5 slots here (but that’s ok with the current state of the market, where there are no such GPUs/SSDs available at the moment). The M.2 slots are placed right above and below the GPU slot; luckily, both radiators are in the default state, so there shouldn’t be a problem with cooling the drives. Still - there are 6 SATA ports. Overall – the potential buyers shouldn’t be disappointed with the performance and the provided features (well, the main complaint would be no PCIe 5.0 this time), with a reasonable price; that’s why we’re granting an “Approved” award for the MSI B650M Mortar WIFI

Wirklich vermisst haben wir an dem Mainboard nichts, ärgerlich ist allerdings die halbierte Bandbreite des ersten PCIe Slots bei Verwendung der mittleren M.2 Steckplätze.

Everyone knows that having a X670E chipset motherboard in your rig is better than having to be a pauper and put up with a B650 chipset. Surely?

The MPG Carbon is easily one of my favourite motherboards. It packs all we would need, that's from quad NVMe (all heatsink cooler), then 6x SATA, proper USB 3.2 connections including one 3.2 2x2, proper DDR5 EXPO support, and an ecosystem that breathes PCIe Gen 4.0 with one NVMe SSD even PCIe Gen 5.0. This is all plenty, even at enthusiast levels by today's standards.The vast majority of budget-conscious do-it-yourselfers should consider the B650 chipset. Compared to the X670(E), it lacks Gen 5.0 graphics slots, and the number if IO (USB 3.2) is halved. In a nutshell that is. With 16 power phases for the CPU there are no issues with processor support either, including the power subsystem's temperature. DDR4 memory is currently substantially less expensive than DDR5 memory, with a frequency of 5200 and timings of CL40 or lower you'll be there 99% also (compared over premium 6000 MHz kits). let me also add that this motherboard comes with WIFI 6E compatibility, so you're future-proof until WIFI7 arrives. MSI's MPG B650 Mortar WIFI is a worthy foundation for a high-performance work machine in its price range. Currently, it's priced at 225~250 USD/EUR. That's still a lot of money but more value for money than anything X670 Overall, the platform felt stable and refined; we can't add anything else here because that is a fact. MSI has created an attractive product here.
