Destiny 2

It’s clear this is just the beginning of a brand-new chapter for Destiny 2, and I couldn’t be more excited to see where it goes from here.

This update not only has improved Destiny 2 for those buying the expansion, but also for all players, regardless of the version they own. Playing on an account without Forsaken I was able to acquire gear from the new expansion, and the new daily and weekly challenges were also available on the account meaning the incentivisation loop that keeps you playing is there for all players.

Forsaken is deep, mysterious, and vast, three words that echo what players most want from this growing universe.

Forsaken's initial story salvo is entertaining, but there's still work to be done a year into the sequel. Given that the MSRP of everything so far has added up astronomically ($59.99 for the base game, $24.99 for the Season Pass, $40 for Forsaken, $34.99 for Forsaken's season pass) it might be a hard pill to swallow. If you're ready for a guaranteed momentary thrill ride pony up, otherwise you can continue to wait it out to see if the momentum continues.

Destiny 2 is mechanically a fantastic shooter, but a threadbare plot and some odd choices after the campaign wraps up make it more of a foundation to build on. Expect it to take a year for Bungie to polish this one up again.

Bungie's sequel is a triumphant adventure to share with new and returning friends, and one in which ease of play has been prioritized over complexity.

Destiny 2 commits a lot of the same sins as its father, but it succeeded in doing something the original never did -- make roaming around the open world fun and rewarding. It still has a lot of room to evolve with expansions and major updates, but the future is looking brighter than it once was.

Destiny 2 finally delivers on all the promise of its predecessor.

Renegades does a good job of bringing some fun back to Destiny 2 with some great campaign missions and new hub area. The Star Wars elements are close enough for you to spot the homage, but not so conspicuous as to pull you out the world of Destiny. Enjoyable while it lasts, but Bungie still need to do a lot more work to rescue the game as whole.

Bungie sticks the landing as it finally brings together the threads of its epic first saga.

With The Final Shape, Bungie makes no apologies for the complexity but does finally offer purposeful punctuation to mark an endpoint. Largely unencumbered by what has come before, the frontiers ahead are now open to be revealed.

The Final Shape is Destiny 2 back to its best for its grand narrative finale. It's the ultimate space wizards with a machine gun fantasy combined with emotional story beats and characters you truly care for. Despite all the odds, Bungie has crafted the perfect endgame.

Destiny 2 The Final Shape is a masterpiece of a finale to the ten year story of the Light and Darkness saga. With a powerful, moving narrative, exceptional character payoffs, inspiring gameplay and gorgeous visuals and sound design, it triumphs as an unmatched expansion for the game.

Bungie geht mit Lightfall in das vorletzte Kapitel im Kampf um Licht und Dunkelheit. Die Geschichte wird seit Release von Destiny 1 kontinuierlich weitererzählt und auch Lightfall reiht sich sehr gut in die Storyline ein. Die neue Welt auf dem Neptun ist definitiv anders als das, was wir bisher aus der Welt von Destiny kennen, vor allem optisch.

Lightfall sets up some strong possibilities – narratively and in the gameplay sphere – for a rewarding year of adventure ahead.

Destiny 2 is still one of the best feeling games to play, but compared to the inventive, personal story told in The Witch Queen, Lightfall is dull and totally inconsequential. What a disappointment.

Lightfall's new gameplay mechanics and evolved systems position it as a turning point for Destiny 2, but the expansion is let down by the poor narrative of its campaign.

Beyond Light is a major turning point for the franchise in both story and gameplay, but the accompanying departure of older content diminishes the game in significant ways.

Beyond Light might not be the biggest expansion, but it does feel like we've entered a new chapter in the game's life, with new priorities and an approach that makes the game more resonant in a way that goes beyond satisfying shooting.

There will be work to do to ensure that Beyond Light’s content remains interesting for an entire year and that Stasis is kept in check, but overall Destiny 2: Beyond Light is a solid effort from Bungie and is a worthwhile expansion to pick up for anyone that enjoys the series.

A solid, well executed update to Destiny 2, with even more content on the horizon.

In that way, the stasis mechanic makes the game feel like I'm not on autopilot. We've all grown accustomed to our favorite builds, but now Bungie is finally ready to flip the script on us. I have to relearn everything with each class, which has been its own joy. Stasis saves this expansion from completely sinking into Destiny 2's routine.

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep is another solid expansion for Bungie's addictive looter shooter. It's a mixed bag, building on the solid foundations of Destiny 2: Forsaken with some ideas working better than others.

Should You Buy Destiny 2: Shadowkeep? If you’re a hardcore player yes, definitely. If you love the Vex yes, get in before this season ends. Otherwise, it depends how bad your Destiny itch is right now. If you’re not dying to play, the core Shadowkeep content isn’t going anywhere, and more will be added later.

Bungie's latest release is a good expansion on its own, but the way it sets the stage for the future of the Destiny franchise is its most impressive feat.
