Cooler Master HAF 500

Mit dem neuen HAF 500 zeigt Cooler Master in alter Tradition ein Gehäuse mit vielen Optionen für die Kühlung, egal ob Wasser oder Luft. Daneben bietet es reichlich Platz für große Komponenten und kombiniert diese Eigenschaft mit einem einfachen Einbau. Das HAF 500 fällt damit wohl in die ganz typische Kategorie moderner Gaming-Gehäuse mit weitgehend offener Front. Leider geht der Effekt der 200-mm-Lüfter hier etwas verloren, da diese auf die Montageplatten für alternative Lüfter und Radiatoren blasen. Das hätte man über herausnehmbare Adapterbleche sicherlich besser lösen können.

Die HAF-Serie stand schon für Airflow, bevor entsprechend ausgelegte Gehäuse zur Mode wurden. Aktuell ist das Angebot an Modellen mit luftiger Meshfront allerdings groß. Cooler Master will mit dem neuen HAF 500 trotzdem zeigen, dass die eigene High-Airflow-Serie Maßstäbe setzen kann. Wir klären im Test, ob das gelingen kann.

Nachdem die HAF-Serie einige Zeit in der Versenkung verschwand, präsentiert Cooler Master mit dem HAF 500 ein geräumiges ATX-Gehäuse, das mit großer Mesh-Front, einem justierbaren internen Lüfter und riesigen Frontlüftern für ausreichend Frischluft sorgen soll. Ob HAF noch immer für „High Air Flow“ steht, zeigt der Test.

The result is that the Cooler Master HAF 500 is a functional case where the past and present sometimes clash. At its price point, it should have really used proper, new tooling, which would have allowed Cooler Master to improve and tweak various areas of the chassis as well as update the fans to properly take advantage of the modern fan hub. That friction and resulting lack of modernization is in essence what cost this case our recommendation.

This case is not so similar to the HAF I remember. Cases sure have come a long way since then. The only similarity is the 200m fan up front and this one has 2 of them. And they are RGB, not just red. The HAF 500 name is a blast from the past but is far from that time as it can get. The cooling is earned its HAF title quite easily. The 2 front fans move a ton of air. Even though if you look closer at the pictures the fans seem to be blocked by the chassis somewhat. I don’t like that it is causing resistance to the airflow and putting extra stress on such a large fan. But a lot of air still makes it through the front panel. Another cooling highlight is the GPU fan. It is situated right behind the front panel and can pivot to provide the right angle of air flow to you GPU. This is feature that is almost a must for the new 3000 series cards. Lastly, the rear fan pushes all the air right out the back.

We love the Cooler Master HAF series, because we feel that the series represents something that makes the custom PC market a great thing. The HAF "High Air Flow" series of cases has a simple design goal, and that goal is to deliver "High Air Flow". Simple, right? For that reason, we have mixed feelings about the Cooler Master HAF 500.
