After almost a decade of total market dominance, Intel has spent the past few years on the defensive. AMD's Ryzen processors continue to show improvement year over year, with the most recent Ryzen 5000 series taking the crown of best gaming processor: Intel's last bastion of superiority. Now, with a booming hardware market, Intel is preparing to make up some of that lost ground with the new 11th Gen Intel Core Processors. Intel is claiming these new 11th Gen CPUs offer double-digit IPC improvements despite remaining on a 14 nm process. The top-end 8-core Intel Core i9-11900K may not be able to compete against its Ryzen 9 5900X AMD rival in heavily multi-threaded scenarios, but the higher clock speeds and alleged IPC improvements could be enough to take back the gaming crown. Along with the new CPUs, there is a new chipset to match, the Intel Z590. Last year's Z490 chipset motherboards are also compatible with the new 11th Gen Intel Core Processors, but Z590 introduces some key advantages. First, Z590 offers native PCIe 4.0 support from the CPU, which means the PCIe and M.2 slots powered off the CPU will offer PCIe 4.0 connectivity when an 11th Gen CPU is installed. The PCIe and M.2 slots controlled by the Z590 chipset are still PCI 3.0. While many high-end Z490 motherboards advertised this capability, it was not a standard feature for the platform. In addition to PCIe 4.0 support, Z590 offers USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 from the chipset. The USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 standard offers speeds of up to 20 Gb/s. Finally, Z590 boasts native support for 3200 MHz DDR4 memory. With these upgrades, Intel's Z series platform has feature parity with AMD's B550. On paper, Intel is catching up to AMD, but only testing will tell if these new Z590 motherboards are up to the challenge.

They’ve been making numerous Mini-ITX motherboards as far as I can remember. And with years of experience behind them, it’s no wonder that their latest Z590 Phantom Gaming-ITX/TB4 motherboard, is a real winner in terms of both performance and features. If you’re after a no-compromise Mini-ITX motherboard based on the Intel Z590 chipset … then this is the motherboard to go for.

The ASRock Z590 OC Formula is a solid offering. The design is aimed at extreme overclockers, with many of the board's features and design traits focused on offering the best possible performance. This includes the memory, the power delivery, the PCB design, and the firmware options. But what is built for that market has the potential to be worth it for regular users. When it comes to regular performance or pushing thermals, the ASRock Z590 OC Formula does a great job.

The ASRock Z590 Taichi is the best model from Asrock’s Z590 family. With an integrated I/O shield, solid RGB implementation, PCIe 4.0 compatibility with future CPU generations (both for the GPU and the NVMe drives), the ASRock Z590 Taichi has all the things you need. It looks excellent – with this metal gear mechanism on the IO area. Also, it’s rigid (including the backside metal cover), has a great feature set, and performs well. The Z590 Taichi should handle even the 8-core Intel Core i9 11900K (14 phase VRM with 90A MOSFETs) without reaching high temperatures of the power delivery section. The price is about 460 USD, so a lot, but you get two ethernet ports (one of them is 2.5 Gbit), an 802.11ax Wi-Fi 6E Module, 14-phase power, very nice audio performance (although it would be suitable to see something fresher than ALC1220), as well as 3x NVMe ports and 8 SATA ports (but there are dependencies and you can’t use all of them – I mean NVMe and SATA at once). It’s good that there are two USB 3.2 Gen 1 connectors on the motherboard (for me, as a user of Phanteks 719, it’s a must). The buttons for power/reset/clear CMOS can also come in handy when overclocking. Additionally, you get Asrock’s GPU Holder solution, which should help prevent the graphics card from sagging. RGB lovers can enjoy two regular and two addressable RGB headers for the bling. In the bundle, there is also a graphics card holder that attaches directly to the motherboard. On the other side, there are some drawbacks. You get only six “regular” USB ports at the back panel, yeah – you get two Thunderbolt 4.0, but still. You can always install the USB 2.0 bracket, but this may not satisfy the customer. Also – the location of the CPU fan headers is… very strange. It’s harder to route the fan cables with that location than the usual top-right corner of the motherboard. What was the idea here? As mentioned earlier – “only” ALC1220 is provided here (competition can offer more, like ALC4082), but luckily there’s a DAC for the front panel output. Last but not least, the post time is rather long, it’s over 20 seconds, and competition can do it faster. The Asrock Z590 Taichi deserves the Recommended award for all that it delivers, but you need to remember the 460 USD price tag, and the competition is robust. In the end, ASRock’s Taichi is a solid upper-mid-range/high-end option for your 10th (or better 11th) generation Intel system.

The ASRock Z590 Taichi is available at Newegg (at the time of writing) for $430 which is a very good price considering all of the board's available features. It has a subtle and clean design, with plenty of user-customizable elements such as RGB LEDs and the new moving cogwheel which adds a new dimension to motherboards in general. We highlighted in our previous Z490 Taichi review that more metal instead of plastic could be used, and despite the rear panel cover remaining plastic, the PCIe slot armor is now metal and has a more overall premium feel to it. The ASRock Z590 Taichi despite its high price tag offers lots of premium features such as Thunderbolt 4, 2.5 GbE networking, and the new Wi-Fi 6E CNVi. This makes it a very attractive model to users looking for a comprehensive and usable package, without paying the price of a $1000 flagship.

I think that at 200 USD, this board is a fair offering. Yes, you do not receive the beefiest VRM, but 14 phases backed by 50A power stages still is plenty enough, even for a mild tweak. You will, however, forfeit on Thunderbolt 4, one M2 slot, and AX WIFI. But that is a fair tradeoff. I also find it fascinating that this board is substantially lower in power consumption, which's for two reasons. The first being, this board follows pretty strict reference settings,e socially on multi-threading on long-duration load, it'll clock down to reference values. And that saves energy. Next to that, missing chips like AX WIFI and Thunderbolt all normally need power; there's not present and in edile that immediately shaves of say 15 Watts. This board also consumes 25 Watts less than the premium board on the top end of the spectrum with all-core loads. Trivial, we know. But it's noticeable and measurable. Overall, you'll get most basics covered, very decent performance, three M.2 slots with heatsink, sic SATA3 slots, and a handful of USB 3 connectors. In the end, the new ASRock Z590 Extreme really isn't extreme, but certainly potent enough for what it needs to be at that 200 USD pricing. We had no stability issue either. We popped on the memory, flashed the BIOS to the latest available, and (as)rocked onwards. So while this board is a bit more baseline, we can also state there's nothing wrong with that.

While most of these have been in the mid-range to premium category, today we are taking a look at a more modest and cost-effective Z590 model. The Z590 Steel Legend WiFi 6E sits toward the lower end of ASRock's Z590 offerings. It combines a varied feature set that includes 2.5 gigabit Ethernet, Intel's latest Wi-Fi 6E CNVi, three M.2 slots, all while adopting a unique urban camouflaged PCB design. We give the Z590 Steel Legend our attention and see if budget Z590 has its limitations or if it's money well spent.

As I said, the ASRock Z590 PG Velocita is a fantastic motherboard that’s absolutely packed with some great features. If you’re building a high-end, enthusiast gaming system based on an Intel 11th Gen rocket Lake processor, then you have to take a look at this motherboard.

ASRock Z590 PG Velocita is a definite head-turner. This board has an overwhelming number of advanced features anywhere from Hyper M.2 support to WiFi6 support to ARGB to Intel 11th Gen CPU support. And it holds itself extremely stable with all of these features available to be used at any time. Velocita has four DDR4 slots that potentially could be used to upgrade the RAM to 128Gb up to 4800MHz if needed. This board is ready to handle pretty much anything you can throw at it.

ASRock woos the gamer with the PG Velocita line of boards. The latest entrant, Z590, is great in parts and merely average in others. Let's start with the good. We like the general layout, colour scheme (surprisingly), and appreciate the attention paid to larger VGA cards through the bundled holder. Power delivery is robust, heatsinks extremely well-built, and enough onboard buttons and fans to sate enthusiasts' needs. But we'd prefer a richer I/O panel, more 20Gbps USB, full-speed AVX by default, and a dual 2.5G networking suite from Intel.

It looks good, has a solid feature set, and performs well. The Z590 PG Velocita would handle even the 8-core Intel Core i9 11900K with ease. The price is about 299 USD, so a lot for what is still essentially a mainstream to high-end chipset, but you get two ethernet solutions (one of them is 2.5 Gbit), an 802.11ax Wi-Fi 6E Module, 14-phase power, nice audio quality, as well as 3x NVMe ports and 6 SATA ports. Additionally, you get Asrock’s GPU Holder solution, which should help prevent the graphics card from sagging. RGB lovers can enjoy two regular and two addressable RGB headers for the bling. The Asrock Z590 PG Velocita surely deserves the Recommended award for all that it delivers, but you need to remember the price tag as well as the fact that the competition is very strong. Other than that, and the price, we got no other major complaints. Well, maybe there is something. No Thunderbolt port on I/O can be missed by some of you.
