The ASRock Phantom B850I Lightning is a good choice if you want a Mini-ITX board for around $200. Compared to most of its B650 predecessors it has two additional power phases. In our testing it handled a 16-core Ryzen CPU just fine, making it a good value choice for any compact AMD system.

Another ASRock motherboard that packs in a generous set of hardware features despite a sub-$200 price tag. It also offers impressive VRM and SSD cooling. The Livemixer is not without its niggles, but you do get an awful lot of motherboard for the money.

ASRock has done well in offering a reasonable specification for the comparatively low price of $200, offering substantial savings compared to various X870 options as well as plenty of B850 alternatives too. We've seen a good number of value-conscious options for Socket AM5's second round of chipsets, but they don't always make cuts in the right areas, and some that opt for X870 have inferior hardware to the B850 Steel Legend Wi-Fi we're looking at today as a result.

Today we are testing the new AMD B850 AM5 motherboard from ASRock on OCinside.de. The ASRock B850 Steel Legend WiFi offers a reasonable number of PCIe slots, M.2 slots and USB ports paired with some useful comfort features. It supports all previously released desktop Ryzen processors of the 7000, 8000 and 9000 series and thanks to PCIe 5.0 it is even fully compatible with the new RTX 5090 graphics card from NVidia. On top of that, there is also a Wi-Fi 7 module and the price is even reasonable by AM5 standards!

AMD offers some compelling reasons to upgrade your PC right now, if you're thinking about a Ryzen 7 9800X3D or Ryzen 9 9950X3D, and you're coming from a platform that doesn't support Socket AM5 CPUs, then you have quite a few motherboard options. Thankfully, while launch prices wouldn't see much change from $300 even for the cheapest models, the introduction of lower end chipsets has finally seen that situation change and the ASRock Phantom Gaming B850 Riptide Wi-Fi we're looking at here doesn't cost much more than $200.
